The Nihonbashi Information Center offers workshops using unique Japanese materials and techniques. In addition, there are many traditional workshops near the Nihonbashi Information Center, where you can experience a variety of Japanese crafts.These include making Japanese washi paper, engraving edo kiriko glass, and dyeing furoshiki and tenugui cloth with a concierge accompanying you as an interpreter. All workshops are conducted in English.

- ORIGAMI WORKSHOP
  Use beautiful, multi-colored traditional washi paper to create delicate origami designs. The international staff will teach you how to make simple designs such as a crane or a samurai helmet using gorgeous origami paper. Take your origami home as a keepsake, or give to someone special as a handmade gift from Japan.

- PERSONALIZED HANKO NAME STAMP
  Choose the kanji characters you'd like to use for your name, and our staff will craft a unique, personalized hanko (seal) with those characters. We’ll guide you through every step, helping you choose the perfect kanji, explaining their meanings, and ensuring the correct reading. Your beautiful hanko will be provided with a case and an ink pad, ready for use.

  (Duration: Approximately 30 minutes. The completed hanko can be collected on the same day or the following day, depending on the workshop time)

- WASHI PAPER MAKING
  Experience a traditional Japanese craft by making washi paper with your own hands. The concierge will provide all explanations in English, from the raw materials used to the step-by-step drying process. Children and adults alike are welcome to enjoy this experience. At the end of the activity, take home your finished handicraft as a great souvenir.

- EDO KIRIKO GLASS ENGRAVING
  Try your hand at engraving glass using the Edo Kiriko style, one of Japan's official and traditional handicrafts. The concierge will give all explanations in English, from the history of glass cutting in Japan to the meaning behind the traditional patterns that are used. Take home the glassware you designed as a souvenir afterwards.

- FUROSHIKI DREAM TIE－DYEING EXPERIENCE
  In this workshop, try the art of dyeing fabric using traditional Japanese dyes. The concierge will explain everything in English including the instructions for "Yume Shibori", a unique tie-dyeing technique using a cylinder; this method was originally developed by the studio. Take home your finished work as a unique souvenir.

- LACQUERWARE MAKIE EXPERIENCE
  Experience the traditional Japanese craft of Maki-e in this activity. You will be able to paint the lacquerware of your choice, including plates and cups. The concierge will provide guidance in English and explain the history of Maki-e and lacquer. After the workshop, take home your finished lacquerware as a souvenir.

- SAKURA-SHAPED AROMA STONE KEY CHAIN
  Make your own aroma stone molded after the iconic sakura, or Japanese cherry blossoms. You can make 12 individual sakura stones and use the color of your choice. Place a completed aroma stone on a wooden key chain made of cherry wood, and store the rest in a paulownia box to take home on the same day. Our concierge will guide you through the whole workshop in English.

- TENUGUI DYEING EXPERIENCE
  In this workshop, you can experience dyeing a tenugui (hand towel) using the traditional Japanese "Chusen" technique with a pattern that you may select from seven different designs. The English-speaking concierge will guide you through the step-by-step process from glue application to dyeing, washing, and drying. After the workshop, take home the tenugui as a souvenir uniquely designed by you.

- KIRIKO GLASS ENGRAVING
  Try the traditional Japanese glass engraving technique called "Kiriko" in this workshop. You can create your own unique piece of glass by drawing patterns freely on its surface. The concierge will provide explanations of the glass cutting process in English. At the end of the day, take home your finished glassware as a souvenir.
